The UBC Office of the Provost has just released two studies that reveal inequities in wages of UBC faculty. There are two reports, one focuses on a data analysis and the other has recommendations for structural measures for resolution.
According the Provost (from an email message sent to the UBC community):
“The Reports contain a number of findings and recommendations of pressing importance. Immediate steps are being undertaken to implement the recommendations. In the short term, an advisory committee is being established to assist in the appointment of a Senior Advisor to the Provost whose mandate will be focused on women faculty at UBC. The Equity Office and Faculty Relations are actively developing more robust training programs and best equity procedures for search committees, which we expect to implement in the near future. Other recommendations will be implemented in consultation with the Senior Advisor. These initiatives form part of a broader long-term strategy to address equity issues for women faculty at UBC, including issues of pay equity.”
