Analyzing the language of equity and diversity

Malinda Smith over at the Equity Matters/ CanFed blog has posted a very interesting article on how the language of equity and diversity in university functions.  She relates some of the newest findings in diversity/equity studies, including a recent study published which states that:

““[d]iscursively embracing diversity commits institutions to recognizing little difference, and certainly not to institutional or structural change, rather diversity is seen as the property of individuals, and is congruent with the project of the neoliberal university.”

Dr. Smith provides several embedded links in her piece to connect you with a variety of studies in this area.  If you’re interested in these issues, you should definitely check out this post.
